Beef Stroganoff – The King of all Russian Dishes

Beef StroganoffA Russian dish like no other, beef stroganoff is a universal favorite. It has, for long, been accepted as the one of the best things to serve the guests with when they come your way. Beef Stroganoff is a dish that comprises of sliced pieces of beef marinated in various sauces and sour cream. Makes your mouth water doesn’t it?

Originating in the Soviet Union in the late nineteenth century, beef stroganoff became an instant hit in many other regions like the Middle East, North America, Europe, Brazil, Lebanon, Australia and Portugal. Regardless to say, the original recipe for this dish underwent numerous transitions over the years as its popularity kept increasing.

Preparing beef stroganoff is one of the most creative activities I have ever indulged myself in. It allows you to experiment with the ingredients a lot. And if prepared properly, the end result would definitely be yummy. Not for nothing has this dish lasted a century, right?

Beef Stroganoff can be prepared in a variety of styles. It is also very easy to cook and doesn’t take much time to get prepared making it the ideal dish for your guests. Here is one of the more conventional styles to make beef stroganoff.

Ingredients for making Beef Stroganoff:

  • 1 pound of sirloin steak cut into small strips.
  • One onion finely chopped.
  • One and a half tablespoons of all purpose flour.
  • ¾ teaspoon salt.
  • Quarter of a teaspoon of paprika.
  • 1/8 of a teaspoon of crushed black pepper.
  • Ten and a half ounces of condensed cream of mushroom soup.
  • Eight ounces of egg noodles.
  • ¼ cup of fat free sour cream.

Directions to prepare Beef Stroganoff:
Once you have got all these ingredients in place you will want to start cooking immediately. Here is how to do it.

  • Cook all the strips of beef in a skillet until it is brown in color.
  • Drain the excess fat used for cooking.
  • Add the onion and continue cooking for about five minutes.
  • Now add the flour, paprika, crushed black pepper and the salt to the mixture.
  • Stir it well.
  • Pour the soup in, reduce the heat to about medium low and let it cook for 15 minutes.
  • Add the sour cream to it and continue stirring.
  • The egg noodles are to be prepared according to the directions given on the packet.
  • Serve the beef on top of the egg noodles and enjoy your beef stroganoff.
